Updown.io alternative with team logins and flat USD pricing, plus updown.io pricing compared
Short answer: updown.io is cheap, honest pay-as-you-go monitoring billed in euros, with 15-second checks and 11 probe locations. For a handful of sites it beats us on price. It has no shared team logins yet and it charges about 10 euro cents per SMS. AlertPing is a flat US dollar plan: 100 monitors every 30 seconds, 15 team members, escalation and 300 SMS a month for $59, which undercuts updown.io's own credit rate once you pass about 67 checks at 30 seconds.

the real difference
A credit meter for one person, or a flat plan for a team
Both tools do the same core job well: hit a URL, a port or a host on a schedule, confirm the failure from somewhere else, and tell you. The split is how you pay and who gets to look. updown.io sells prepaid credits, one credit per check, and an account belongs to one login. AlertPing sells a monthly plan in dollars with seats, escalation and an SMS allowance already inside it.
updown.io
Pay per check, any interval
HTTP(S), TCP(S) and ICMP checks, pulse monitoring for cron jobs, SSL and domain expiry alerts, IPv4 and IPv6 on every check, hosted status pages and a REST API. You set any interval from 15 seconds to an hour and the price scales in a straight line. Packs run from 5 euros for 200,000 credits to 500 euros for 60 million, with no commitment and no expiry date on the page.
A failure is re-checked twice, at double speed and from at least one other location, before you hear about it. It is a well-made tool and has been running since 2012.
alertping
One price, the whole team inside it
HTTP and HTTPS checks, API monitoring with body assertions, ping, port checks, SSL expiry, cron heartbeats and status pages. Every failure is confirmed from a second region (US East or EU Central) before anyone is paged.
Team members get their own logins, 3 on Starter, 15 on Team, unlimited on Business, and escalation routes an unanswered alert to the next person. Billing is a US dollar invoice, monthly or yearly at half price.

Three rows decide it for most buyers. If more than one person needs to see the dashboard, updown.io cannot give them their own login today. If you page people by SMS, every text draws on your credit balance. And if you watch dozens of endpoints at 30 seconds, the per-check meter overtakes a flat plan. If none of those apply, updown.io is hard to beat on cost.
what it costs
Updown.io pricing against AlertPing, at the sizes teams buy
updown.io charges one credit per check. A check every 30 seconds runs about 87,666 times in an average month (43,833 minutes), and a check every minute about 43,833 times. The range below is the largest pack (500 euros for 60 million credits) against the smallest (5 euros for 200,000). Our column is the monthly list price, with the yearly price in brackets.
| Size | Credits a month | updown.io, best to worst pack rate | AlertPing |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 checks every 60 s | 876,660 | 7.31 to 21.92 euros a month | $49 Starter ($24 yearly) |
| 20 checks every 30 s | 1,753,320 | 14.61 to 43.83 euros a month | $59 Team ($29 yearly) |
| 100 checks every 60 s | 4,383,300 | 36.53 to 109.58 euros a month | $59 Team at 30 s ($29 yearly) |
| 100 checks every 30 s | 8,766,600 | 73.06 to 219.16 euros a month | $59 Team ($29 yearly) |
| 500 checks every 30 s | 43,833,000 | 365.27 to 1,095.83 euros a month | $189 Business ($94 yearly) |
| 300 SMS alerts a month | 2,250,000 | About 30 euros on top | Included on Team |
At the small end updown.io is simply cheaper. Twenty sites every minute cost 7 to 22 euros a month there and $49 here, and we will not pretend otherwise. If you are one developer watching a few side projects, buy credits.
The crossover is about checks at 30 seconds. On the 100 euro pack, one 30-second check costs 0.88 euros a month, so 67 of them reach 59 euros; on the 500 euro pack it is 0.73 euros and 81 checks. Our Team plan is $59 for 100 such checks, or $29 a month billed yearly, which moves the crossover down to 33 to 40 checks. A euro also costs a US card more than a dollar, so the real gap is a little wider than the table shows.
SMS changes the math again. At 7,500 credits a message, a month with 300 texts burns 2.25 million credits, which is more than two and a half months of 20 one-minute checks. Read the interval against the SLA math as well: a 99.99% target leaves about 4 minutes 23 seconds of downtime a month.

Why teams move off updown.io
The reasons we hear are rarely about the checks themselves. They are about the people around them.
- A second engineer needs access. On updown.io the colleague logs in as you or reads the public status page. Its feature board marks team accounts as in progress since August 2026, with no release date. On AlertPing each person has a login from day one.
- Someone has to be woken up, and then someone else. updown.io sends to the recipients you attach to a check. Our Team plan adds escalation: if the first person does not acknowledge, the next one is paged.
- Finance wants a dollar invoice, not a credit top-up. A prepaid euro balance that runs out at an unknown date is awkward to budget in a US company. A fixed monthly or yearly price is not.
- An agency watches client sites. At 30-second checks across dozens of client URLs the credit meter climbs fast. See uptime monitoring for agencies.
where they win
When updown.io is the right call
We would rather you buy the right tool than cancel in a month. Stay on updown.io if any of these is a real requirement.
A few sites, one person
Ten sites every two minutes cost from 1.83 euros a month on updown.io. No plan of ours comes close at that size, and nothing about a solo setup needs seats or escalation.
15-second checks on a budget
updown.io sells a 15-second interval on any check for 1.46 to 4.38 euros a month. Our 15-second checks are on Enterprise only. If one or two endpoints need that speed, updown.io is cheaper.
More locations, more payment options
Eleven probe nodes on five continents against our two regions, plus PayPal, SEPA and crypto. If you must measure from Tokyo or Sydney, or cannot pay by card, that matters.
Choose AlertPing if
- More than one person needs their own login to the monitors.
- You want escalation when the first person sleeps through a page.
- You send SMS alerts and want them inside a fixed price.
- You run 40 or more checks at 30 seconds and want the bill to stop moving.
Choose updown.io if
- You watch a few sites alone and want the lowest possible cost.
- You need 15-second checks on a small number of endpoints.
- You want probes in Asia, Australia or Africa.
- You prefer prepaid credits with no subscription at all.
questions
Updown.io alternative questions, answered
What is the best updown.io alternative for a team?
For a team that needs separate logins, escalation and SMS inside a fixed price, AlertPing Team is a direct fit: 100 monitors every 30 seconds, 15 members and 300 SMS a month for $59. For a solo developer watching a few sites, updown.io itself stays the cheaper choice.
How much does updown.io cost?
updown.io sells prepaid credits, one per check: 5 euros for 200,000 up to 500 euros for 60 million, excluding VAT. One check every 30 seconds uses about 87,666 credits a month, so it costs 0.73 to 2.19 euros depending on the pack. SMS alerts cost 7,500 credits, about 0.10 euro, each.
Does updown.io support multiple users?
Not yet. An updown.io account has one login, and colleagues either share it or read a public status page. Its public feature board lists team accounts as in progress since August 2026, with roles planned, but no release date. AlertPing includes 3, 15 or unlimited members by plan.
Is updown.io cheaper than UptimeRobot?
For a few paid checks, usually yes, because you pay only for the checks you run and there is no minimum plan. UptimeRobot sells fixed tiers with a free plan for non-commercial use. At dozens of 30-second checks a flat plan wins, whether that is ours or UptimeRobot's.
Where does updown.io check from?
From 11 nodes listed in its public API: Los Angeles, Miami, Toronto, Roubaix, Frankfurt, Falkenstein, Helsinki, Cape Town, Singapore, Tokyo and Sydney. AlertPing checks from US East and EU Central and confirms every failure from the second region before paging.
Can I move my checks from updown.io?
Yes. updown.io's REST API lists every check with its URL and interval, so you can export them in one call and recreate them here. Keep both running for a week, compare the alerts, then let the credit balance run down instead of topping it up.
how we page you
Two regions have to agree
A single failed probe never wakes anybody. A second region, US East or EU Central, re-checks first, so a hiccup on one route is not a 3am phone call.
what a plan covers
SMS is in the price, not in credits
Email, Slack and webhook alerts are unlimited on every plan, SMS comes with a monthly allowance, and each plan hosts status pages. No credit packs, no per-message fee, no per-monitor math.
how setup works
One URL, no agent to install
Paste the address, choose where alerts go, and the first check runs from both regions. No agent, no config file, nothing to deploy on your side.
Monitoring the whole team can log into
100 monitors every 30 seconds from two regions, 15 members, escalation and 300 SMS a month on Team for $59.
