LogicMonitor vs Dynatrace pricing per host and per device and which is cheaper

Short answer: LogicMonitor charges a flat $16 per Hybrid Unit a month on Essentials, whether the unit is a server, a switch or a cloud instance. Dynatrace charges $29 per host for Infrastructure Monitoring and $0.01 per GiB of RAM per hour for Full-Stack, so a 16 GiB server with APM lists at $116.80. For infrastructure-only servers LogicMonitor lists 45% lower. For application tracing Dynatrace is the deeper product, and its network device metrics can cost a few dollars a device where LogicMonitor charges a full unit.

the short version

A flat unit price against a consumption rate card

LogicMonitor and Dynatrace meet on the shortlist when a US IT team wants one platform for hybrid infrastructure and has budget for an enterprise contract. They come at it from opposite ends. LogicMonitor grew out of infrastructure and network monitoring, collector first. Dynatrace grew out of application performance monitoring, with OneAgent installed on each host and its Davis AI tracing a slowdown down to the line of code.

The bills are built just as differently. LogicMonitor sells three packages priced per Hybrid Unit: $16, $27 or $53 a month. One unit is one collector-monitored device, one cloud IaaS instance, seven cloud PaaS resources or five wireless access points, and logs, NetFlow and topology come inside the unit.

Dynatrace has no packages. Under its Dynatrace Platform Subscription you commit a minimum annual spend and draw it down against a published rate card: $7 per host for Foundation & Discovery, $29 per host for Infrastructure Monitoring, $0.01 per memory-GiB-hour for Full-Stack, $0.20 per GiB of logs, $0.15 per 100,000 metric data points and $0.001 per synthetic HTTP request. Dynatrace states there are no per-seat fees.

Every figure below is US list, read from logicmonitor.com/pricing, LogicMonitor's Hybrid Unit billing documentation, dynatrace.com/pricing and Dynatrace's extension documentation. LogicMonitor calls its numbers starting prices based on standard minimum quantities and terms, and Dynatrace discounts larger commitments, so treat both as where the quote starts.

one server, per month

The RAM on your servers decides the Dynatrace bill

A LogicMonitor unit costs the same for a 4 GiB VM and a 64 GiB database server. Dynatrace Infrastructure Monitoring is flat per host too, but Full-Stack, the tier with APM, is billed on memory: $0.01 per GiB per hour, 730 hours a month. That makes server size the biggest variable in any Dynatrace quote.

Server RAM LM Essentials LM Advanced LM Signature DT Infrastructure DT Full-Stack DT Foundation
4 GiB$16$27$53$29$29.20$7
8 GiB$16$27$53$29$58.40$7
16 GiB$16$27$53$29$116.80$7
32 GiB$16$27$53$29$233.60$7
64 GiB$16$27$53$29$467.20$7

Three crossovers are worth knowing before the sales call. Dynatrace Full-Stack passes LogicMonitor Advanced at 3.7 GiB of RAM ($27 divided by $7.30 per GiB-month) and passes Signature at 7.26 GiB, so on any server bigger than a small VM, Full-Stack is the most expensive line on this page. Dynatrace Infrastructure Monitoring at $29 costs $13 more than LogicMonitor Essentials on every host. And Dynatrace Foundation & Discovery at $7 undercuts everything, but it covers basic host health and inventory, not the process, disk and network analysis the other columns include.

The columns are not the same product. Full-Stack buys code-level tracing and automated root cause analysis across services, which LogicMonitor's packages are not built around. If you need that, compare Full-Stack against an APM tool, and see our New Relic vs Dynatrace and AppDynamics vs Dynatrace pages. If you need infrastructure and network visibility, the fair fight is LogicMonitor Essentials or Advanced against Dynatrace Infrastructure Monitoring.

four estates, priced

What four real environments list at on each

List prices per month. Network devices on the Dynatrace side use Dynatrace's own documented example: its generic network device extension produces 44 metric data points a minute for a device with five interfaces, which is $2.89 a month at $0.15 per 100,000 points. Devices with more interfaces produce more points, so read that column as a floor.

Estate LogicMonitor Essentials LogicMonitor Advanced Dynatrace Cheaper on list
50 Linux VMs, infrastructure depth (DT Infrastructure Monitoring)$800$1,350$1,450LogicMonitor, 45% less on Essentials
50 VMs at 16 GiB with APM (DT Full-Stack)$800$1,350$5,840Not like for like: Dynatrace includes code-level APM
100 switches and firewalls, 5 interfaces each$1,600$2,700about $289, rising with interface countDynatrace, by a wide margin at this interface count
Mixed office: 30 servers plus 15 network devices$720$1,215$913.39LogicMonitor Essentials, 21% less

The network row surprises most buyers, because LogicMonitor is the network-first product. The reason is billing, not capability: LogicMonitor counts a firewall as a full $16 unit, while Dynatrace only charges for the metric points its SNMP extension ingests. A 48-port core switch polled every minute produces far more points than a five-interface device, so price your real port counts before you trust that row. LogicMonitor also bundles topology mapping, config change tracking and NetFlow into the unit, which the Dynatrace figure does not include.

Logs move the answer the other way. Dynatrace charges $0.20 per GiB to ingest, so 200 GiB a month is $40 before retention and queries. LogicMonitor includes logs in every package up to an allowance it does not publish. Ask for that allowance in writing; it decides whether the bundle is really free.

the external check line

Checking your website from outside costs more on both

Both platforms can tell you whether a public URL answers. Dynatrace bills one synthetic request each time a monitor runs, for each HTTP request, at each location. One URL checked every minute from one location is 43,833 requests a month, or $43.83. From three locations it is $131.50. Twenty endpoints from three locations come to $2,629.98 a month.

On LogicMonitor, LM Uptime is an add-on on Essentials with no published price and is bundled from Advanced. Moving a 50-unit estate from Essentials to Advanced to get it adds $11 a unit, $550 a month.

20 public endpoints, checked every minute Monthly cost Notes
Dynatrace synthetic HTTP monitors, 3 locations$2,629.98Metered per request per location; 1 minute is the fastest interval
LogicMonitor, upgrade 50 units to Advanced for LM Uptime$550.00Also buys the other Advanced modules
AlertPing Starter, 2 regions$49.0060-second checks; 30-second checks on Team at $59

That outside view is the whole of what we sell. AlertPing checks websites, APIs, TCP ports, SSL certificates and cron heartbeats from two regions, waits for a second region to confirm before it alerts, and sends SMS, email, Slack and webhook alerts on every plan, with a public status page included. Keep LogicMonitor or Dynatrace for what happens inside your network. For the per-request math in more detail, read Dynatrace pricing and our LogicMonitor pricing breakdown.

honest scorecard

Where each one actually wins

LogicMonitor wins on

  • Infrastructure-depth servers at $16 against Dynatrace's $29 per host.
  • A predictable bill with logs, NetFlow, topology and config tracking inside the unit.
  • Wireless-heavy estates, five access points to one unit.
  • No annual spend commitment to size up front; you buy units.
  • Agentless collection for network gear and hybrid estates.

Dynatrace wins on

  • Application performance: code-level tracing and automated root cause analysis.
  • A fully published rate card, down to logs, metrics and synthetic requests.
  • Network devices with few interfaces, billed by metric points, not by device.
  • A $7 Foundation tier for hosts that only need health and inventory.
  • Hourly consumption, so short-lived hosts cost only the hours they run.

Where we fit

  • We replace neither. No agent, no collector, no SNMP, no logs, no APM.
  • We watch what customers reach from outside: websites, APIs, ports, SSL and cron heartbeats.
  • A second region confirms every failure before anyone is paged.
  • $49 a month for 20 monitors at 60 seconds; 30-second checks from $59.
  • SMS alerts and a public status page on every plan.

buyer scenarios

Pick by what breaks most often

  • Outages usually start in your own code. Dynatrace. Full-Stack tracing is what you are paying for, and LogicMonitor does not center on it.
  • Outages usually start in the network or a VM host. Price LogicMonitor Essentials against Dynatrace Infrastructure Monitoring. On servers LogicMonitor lists $13 a host lower.
  • A large fleet of big-memory servers. Model Dynatrace Full-Stack host by host. A 64 GiB database server lists at $467.20 a month on Full-Stack.
  • A network team with hundreds of small branch devices. Ask Dynatrace for a metric-point estimate on your real interface counts. It may undercut a $16 unit by a lot.
  • An MSP. LogicMonitor offers product-by-product MSP pricing through its account team. Dynatrace pricing runs through the annual commitment.
  • You mainly need to know the website and API are up. Neither. A dedicated uptime service covers 20 endpoints from two regions for $49 to $59 a month.

plainly

What AlertPing does not do

We are the third option on this page, not a replacement for either platform. If anything below is a requirement, buy LogicMonitor or Dynatrace and run us next to it as the outside check.

  • No agent or collector, so no CPU, memory, disk or process metrics from inside a host.
  • No SNMP, no NetFlow, no topology maps.
  • No log management, tracing or APM.
  • No scripted multi-step browser journeys.
  • No monitoring of private addresses behind your firewall. We check what the internet can reach.
  • No free plan. Starter is $49 a month at 60-second checks; 30-second checks start at $59.

If the other name on your list is Datadog, our LogicMonitor vs Datadog and Datadog vs Dynatrace comparisons run the same arithmetic.
