Better Stack pricing: how much does Better Stack cost?

Better Stack costs $34 per responder per month, or $29 per responder billed annually, and that license is the unit everything else attaches to. Uptime monitoring comes with 10 monitors and 10 heartbeats at a 30-second check frequency; another 50 monitors is $25 a month, or $21 annually. Extra status pages are $15 a month, or $12 annually. Those are US dollar list prices, checked against the vendor's own pricing page in August 2026.

The number that matters is not any single one of those. It is the shape: Better Stack does not sell tiers, it sells a license per person who takes alerts, plus an itemized menu of everything else. That is unusually cheap if one person is on call and unusually expensive if six people are, and no headline price on any comparison site tells you which of those you are.

Here is the rate card as published, with both billing bases shown. The annual column is what you pay per month on a yearly commitment; the monthly column is what you pay with no commitment.

Two of those lines deserve a second look. The white-label status page at $250 a month is not a typo and it is not per account, it is per page: password protection, IP allowlisting and SSO on a status page all sit behind the same expensive door. And the Slack and Teams integration is charged per responder rather than once, so a six-person rotation pays $54 a month for the privilege of getting alerts in the tool it already uses.

Watch the currency and the billing basis

Better Stack renders prices differently depending on where you are, and its telemetry bundles are explicitly priced higher for Europe and Singapore than for the US. Every figure on this page was captured from a US view of the vendor's own pricing page, twice, on August 17, 2026. If you are building a budget, make sure every number in your spreadsheet came from the same regional view and the same billing basis, because mixing an annual rate from one vendor with a monthly rate from another is how comparisons quietly go wrong.

How much does Better Stack cost for a real team?

A rate card is not a bill. Three worked examples at annual pricing, which is the cheaper basis and the one most teams end up on.

One founder, eight monitors, one status page

One responder license at $29. The eight monitors and the status page are inside the base. Total $29 a month, with 30-second checks and unlimited phone alerts. This is Better Stack at its best, and it is a genuinely strong offer at that size. For comparison, our Starter plan is $15 a month annually with 20 monitors, but it checks every 60 seconds rather than every 30, so you are paying Better Stack roughly double for twice the resolution.

Five people on call, 60 monitors, two status pages

Five licenses at $29 is $145. Sixty monitors means one extra pack at $21. The second status page is $12. Total $178 a month, or $210 if you bill monthly. Add Slack routing for all five and it is $223.

This is the size where the per-responder model starts to bite, and it is also the most common shape of team that buys uptime monitoring. Our Team plan is $47 a month annually and covers 100 monitors at 30 seconds, five branded status pages, escalation chains with on-call hours, and 15 team members, with SMS unmetered. Same job, $178 against $47.

Twelve responders, 150 monitors, a white-label status page

Twelve licenses at $29 is $348. Three extra monitor packs at $21 is $63. A white-labeled, SSO-protected status page is $208. Total $619 a month.

Here the honest answer changes. We do not do white-label status pages at all. Our Business plan at $151 a month annually gives 500 monitors, 20 status pages and a custom domain on them, plus SLA reports and full API access, and that covers most of this scenario for a quarter of the price. But if the requirement is genuinely a page with your branding, no vendor logo, SSO and an IP allowlist, Better Stack sells that and we do not. Buy the thing that does the job.

What Better Stack includes that we do not

This is the part most comparison pages skip, so it is worth being direct. Better Stack is not really an uptime monitoring company any more. It is an observability platform with uptime monitoring attached, and if you want one vendor for the whole picture it is a serious option.

  • Logs, metrics and traces. The telemetry bundles start at $25 a month annually for 40 GB of each. We do none of this.
  • Real user monitoring. Error tracking with 100,000 exceptions included, session replay with 5,000 replays included, and web events metered by the gigabyte. We have no RUM product.
  • Scripted browser journeys. Playwright transaction monitoring at $1 per 100 minutes. Our API checks are single requests with assertions, not recorded multi-step flows.
  • Incident management. On-call scheduling, escalation and an incident timeline are core to the responder license. We do escalation chains and on-call hours from the Team plan, but we are not trying to be a full incident platform.
  • Unlimited team members at $0. Only people who actually take alerts need a license. That is a fair model and worth crediting.

If the thing keeping you awake is whether the nightly pipeline that feeds those dashboards ran at all and produced sane numbers, that is a data lineage and freshness problem rather than an uptime one, and no amount of HTTP checking will answer it. Different tool, different budget line.

Where the per-responder model gets expensive

Every vendor meters something. UptimeRobot meters SMS credits. Site24x7 meters check interval, and charges $899 a month annually before you see 30-second checks. Atlassian Statuspage meters status pages and subscribers. Better Stack meters people.

Metering people has one specific consequence worth thinking through before you sign: it puts a price on adding somebody to the rotation. A team that wants to spread on-call across eight engineers instead of three, which is what you are supposed to do for burnout reasons, pays $145 a month more for the privilege. That is a small amount of money and a bad incentive, and it is the single thing I would raise in an internal review of the quote. The on-call rotation practices that keep people sane all point toward more responders, not fewer.

The counterpoint, and it is a real one: if your rotation is genuinely two or three people and you also want logs and error tracking, the bundled price is competitive and you are consolidating vendors, which has its own value that does not show up in a spreadsheet.

Is Better Stack free?

There is a free entry point covering a small number of monitors, which is enough to watch a personal site and get an email when it breaks. What it does not cover is the responder license, and the responder license is where on-call scheduling, escalation, phone alerts and the status page live. In practice, any team with a rotation is on a paid license from day one, so treat the free tier as an evaluation path rather than a plan you can run a business on.

Read that table for the metering column rather than the price column. Two products at $30 a month can behave completely differently at month six depending on whether the meter runs on people, text messages or check frequency. How much does Better Stack cost per month?

A responder license is $34 a month, or $29 billed annually, and it includes 10 monitors, 10 heartbeats, one status page, unlimited team members, unlimited SMS and unlimited phone calls. Most real bills are a multiple of that: licenses for everyone on call, plus $21 per extra 50 monitors and $12 per extra status page on annual billing.

Does Better Stack charge per user?

It charges per responder, not per user, and the distinction is the good part of the model. Team members who only read dashboards or subscribe to incidents cost nothing. Only people who are in the on-call rotation and can be paged need a license, so a 40-person engineering org with a five-person rotation pays for five.

What does Better Stack uptime monitoring cost on its own?

You cannot buy it fully on its own, because alerting, on-call and the status page are attached to the responder license. The uptime component itself brings 10 monitors and 10 heartbeats at a 30-second frequency inside that license, and scales at $21 per extra 50 monitors and $17 per extra 10 heartbeats on annual billing.

How much do Better Stack logs cost?

Telemetry is sold in bundles that include traces, logs and metrics together. US pricing runs from Nano at $25 a month annually for 40 GB of each, through Micro at $100 for 160 GB, Mega at $210 for 340 GB, up to Tera at $420 for 700 GB. Is Better Stack worth it?

For a one to three person team that wants uptime, incident management, logs and error tracking from a single vendor, yes, and the bundling is the reason. For a larger rotation that only needs monitoring and alerting, the per-responder meter makes it two to four times the cost of a flat-priced tool for the same monitoring job, and that gap widens every time you add someone to the rotation.

What is the cheapest way to buy Better Stack?

Commit annually, which cuts the license from $34 to $29 and every add-on by roughly 15 to 20 percent. Keep the rotation to the people who genuinely need to be paged, use the free Google SSO rather than the $5 per user Azure or Okta option, and check whether you actually need custom CSS on a status page before adding $12 a month per page for it.

The short version

Better Stack is priced per person on call, which makes it one of the cheapest serious options for a solo operator and one of the more expensive ones for a team. If you want uptime plus logs plus error tracking from one vendor, the bundle is fair value. If you want 100 endpoints checked every 30 seconds with SMS that never runs out and a bill that does not move when the rotation grows, flat pricing is the model to look for, and that is the one we sell.
