Nagios XI costs $2,595 for a 100-node Standard license, rising to $14,995 for 1,000 nodes, and the license is perpetual. The first year of maintenance and support is included. After that, keeping upgrades and support costs $2,104 a year at 100 nodes and $11,898 at 1,000 nodes, roughly 80% of the purchase price every year. Enterprise features add $2,095 at purchase and $1,066 a year on renewal.
Third-party price pages still quote figures like "$1,995 for 100 nodes" or "maintenance at 20 to 25% of the license". Neither matches the current Nagios sheet. Below is the full 2026 price list from nagios.com, the renewal table that most summaries leave out, and 1, 3 and 5-year totals for every node tier.
Paying Nagios nodes for public websites?
Every public URL you check from Nagios uses a node. AlertPing Team checks 100 websites, APIs, ports and certificates every 30 seconds from 2 regions for $348 a year on the yearly plan. See the plans and limits.
How much does Nagios XI cost?
Nagios XI Standard costs $2,595 for 100 nodes, $4,395 for 200, $8,295 for 500 and $14,995 for 1,000. Enterprise costs $4,690 to $17,090 over the same tiers. Above 2,000 nodes, and for the unlimited Sitewide license, you get a quote from sales. Every purchase includes year one of maintenance.

Renewal prices are Nagios's maintenance and support rates effective January 1, 2026, and Nagios notes they are subject to change. The Enterprise renewal column is the Standard renewal plus the $1,066 Enterprise add-on. Per node, a license works out to $25.95 at the 100 tier and $15.00 at the 1,000 tier, so the discount for scale is real but arrives in large steps.
Standard purchase vs yearly renewal
Is Nagios XI a one-time purchase?
Yes for the license, no for the upgrades. You pay once and the Standard Edition keeps running whether or not you renew. Version upgrades, support cases, the Support Portal and the Premium features stop after the included first year unless you pay the yearly maintenance and support renewal.
What happens if I don't renew Nagios maintenance?
Your Nagios XI install keeps monitoring, but you lose version upgrades, the 10 included support cases, the Support Portal, your Customer Success Manager and Premium features such as SSO via Azure AD, the Mod-Gearman UI and premium wizards. Maintenance plans expire one year after purchase and need an active license.
Skipping renewal also means staying on the version you have. The current release is Nagios XI 2026R1.7 from August 4, 2026, and a monitoring server that sits on an old version for years becomes its own security and compatibility project.
Nagios XI cost over 1, 3 and 5 years
Because the renewal is close to 80% of the license, the license is the smaller part of what you spend after a few years. Year one is the purchase price; every year after adds the renewal.
| Nodes | Standard 1 yr | Standard 3 yr | Standard 5 yr | Enterprise 3 yr | Enterprise 5 yr |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | $2,595 | $6,803 | $11,011 | $11,030 | $17,370 |
| 200 | $4,395 | $11,327 | $18,259 | $15,554 | $24,618 |
| 300 | $6,195 | $16,105 | $26,015 | $20,332 | $32,374 |
| 400 | $7,295 | $19,189 | $31,083 | $23,416 | $37,442 |
| 500 | $8,295 | $22,173 | $36,051 | $26,400 | $42,410 |
| 750 | $11,495 | $29,887 | $48,279 | $34,114 | $54,638 |
| 1,000 | $14,995 | $38,791 | $62,587 | $43,018 | $68,946 |
Totals assume you renew every year at the January 2026 rates. A 100-node Standard install costs $2,595 plus 4 x $2,104, or $11,011 over five years, which is more than four times the sticker price.
What counts as a node in Nagios XI?
A node is any unique IP address or fully qualified domain name you monitor. Services on that node are unlimited on paid licenses, so one Linux server with 30 checks is one node. Two public websites on separate hostnames are two nodes, even if both run on the same machine.
One license key covers 3 installs: production, test or lab, and disaster recovery. An active-active pair is the exception and needs a license for each system.
How much is Nagios XI Enterprise?
Nagios XI Enterprise costs $4,690 for 100 nodes and $17,090 for 1,000 nodes, a flat $2,095 above Standard at every tier. The renewal adds $1,066 a year. Enterprise brings SLA reports, capacity planning, scheduled reports, business process intelligence, bulk modification tools and audit logs.
At the 100 tier that flat add-on nearly doubles the price, from $25.95 to $46.90 per node. At 1,000 nodes it is a 14% premium. Enterprise is easy to justify for a large estate and hard to justify for a small one that only needs an SLA report.
Is there a free version of Nagios XI?
Yes. The free edition monitors up to 7 nodes or 100 services, whichever comes first, with most Standard features and no support. There is also a 30-day trial with full Enterprise features and no card required. Nagios Core, the free open-source engine underneath XI, comes without the XI web interface, wizards, reporting or dashboards.
Three Nagios XI bills worked out
An 80-host shop on the 100-node Standard tier
$2,595 in year one and $2,104 each year after, so $6,803 over three years. The 20 spare nodes are headroom you pay for until you grow into them. Spread across 80 hosts, that is about $28 per host per year.
260 hosts on the 300-node Enterprise tier
$8,290 at purchase, then $4,955 plus $1,066, or $6,021 a year. Three years cost $20,332, about $26 per host per year. The tiers are step functions, so if this team crosses 300 hosts it moves to the 400 tier and the Enterprise renewal climbs to $7,013.
120 hosts, 40 of them public websites and APIs
At 120 nodes you buy the 200 tier: $4,395 and $3,466 a year. If the 40 public endpoints move to a hosted uptime monitor, 80 nodes remain and the 100 tier fits. The renewal drops from $3,466 to $2,104, a saving of $1,362 a year, plus $1,800 less at purchase. AlertPing Team covers those 40 endpoints for $348 a year, so the net saving is $1,014 a year, and $3,480 over three years for a new buyer. If you already own the 200 tier, confirm with Nagios sales that your renewal can be quoted at 100 nodes before you plan around it.
Hidden costs of Nagios XI
Your own server. Nagios XI is self-hosted on Linux. The hardware or cloud instance, its backups and its operating system patches are yours, and the plan calculator sizes load in total checks per 5 minutes, so shorter check intervals push you toward a bigger box.
Admin time. Someone installs upgrades, maintains plugins and keeps configuration in order. That time is real even if it never shows up on an invoice.
Tier steps. 101 nodes means buying the 200 tier. A few new hostnames can push the renewal up by more than $1,000 a year.
Support beyond 10 cases. An extra 5 cases cost $995 and 10 cost $1,495. Phone support is sold separately at $1,995 for 5 calls or $2,995 for 10.
When Nagios XI is worth the price
Nagios XI earns its cost when most of your nodes are internal: servers, switches and services behind the firewall that need agents, SNMP and hundreds of checks per host. Unlimited services per node make a dense internal estate cheap per check. It is a weaker deal when a large share of your nodes are public URLs that only need an HTTP, port or certificate check, because each one costs a full node. For how other self-hosted tools price the same estate, see our PRTG pricing breakdown and WhatsUp Gold pricing, and for the Nagios offshoot that bills per service instead of per node, our Checkmk pricing sheet.
Cut the node count by moving public endpoint checks out
The cheapest Nagios node is the one you no longer need. Public websites, APIs, SSL certificates and open ports are checked from outside your network anyway, and a hosted monitor does that from 3 regions without touching your Nagios server. AlertPing Starter covers 20 monitors at 60-second checks for $288 a year, Team covers 100 monitors at 30 seconds for $348, and Business covers 500 with SLA reports and an API for $1,128.
Be precise about the trade. An AlertPing monitor is one check on one endpoint, not a node with unlimited services, and AlertPing does not collect agent-based internal metrics such as CPU, disk or SNMP. Keep Nagios for the inside and move the outside. The full side-by-side is in our Nagios alternative for public uptime checks, and the agent-free server checks we do run are on the server monitoring page.
Then make the renewal a decision rather than a habit. The maintenance renewal arrives as an invoice each year, so send it through your accounts payable approval workflow with the current node count attached so nobody renews a tier you no longer use.
Nagios pricing questions
How much is the Nagios XI renewal?
The yearly maintenance and support renewal is $2,104 for 100 nodes, $3,466 for 200, $6,939 for 500 and $11,898 for 1,000, effective January 1, 2026. Enterprise adds $1,066 a year. The first year is included in the purchase, so the first renewal is due one year after you buy.
Is Nagios Core free?
Yes. Nagios Core is the free open-source monitoring engine. Nagios XI is the commercial product built on it, adding the web interface, configuration wizards, database, reporting, dashboards and API. XI's own free edition is limited to 7 nodes or 100 services.
Can I use one Nagios XI license for a test server?
Yes. Each license key allows 3 installs: production, a test or lab system and a disaster recovery system. An active-active pair is different and needs a license for each of the two systems.
