Progress publishes nothing above 50 devices, so larger networks are quoted, and a Free Edition covers 10 devices.

WhatsUp Gold pricing 2026: the subscription editions
Progress sells WhatsUp Gold's infrastructure monitoring in four subscription editions. Each one is shown as "starting from" a price for 50 devices per year. The editions differ on how many installations you may run, the support hours and which modules are included.

The key licensing fact is in the comparison grid, where "Aspects/Channels Per Device" reads unlimited on every edition. A device license covers every interface, disk, service and counter on that device. That is the whole argument Progress makes against sensor-based rivals, and it is a real one for port-dense switches.
Moving up an edition at 50 devices costs $820 a year from Business to Enterprise and $1,420 more from Enterprise to Enterprise Plus. What you get for the first step is a second installation, round-the-clock weekday phone support and the log, application and virtualization modules. The second step buys two more installations plus traffic analysis and configuration backup.
How much does WhatsUp Gold cost per device?
At the published 50-device starting prices, $24.58 per device per year on Business, $40.98 on Enterprise and $69.38 on Enterprise Plus. Those rates only apply at exactly 50 devices. There is no published price for 51, 100 or 500, and there is no smaller paid tier either: a 30-device office pays the 50-device price, which is $40.97 per device actually used on Business.
Above 50 devices you need a quote. The useful thing to bring to that call is the price a published competitor charges for the same estate. Paessler lists PRTG at $4,296 a year for 1,000 sensors, which it maps to about 100 devices, and $8,904 for 2,500 sensors, about 250 devices. WhatsUp Gold perpetual license pricing
Progress still sells a license you own, which most of this market has dropped. There are two perpetual editions, and both include the current version plus one year of updates and support.

The catch is year two. Updates and support after the first year are a maintenance renewal, and Progress does not publish what it costs. That renewal decides whether perpetual is the cheaper path, so here is the math that tells you what number to hold the quote to.

The same exercise at the top end gives Total Plus at $14,439 against Enterprise Plus at $3,469 a year: over five years the subscription is $17,345, so perpetual wins only if maintenance stays under $726.50 a year. Premium also lists several modules as add-ons, so check that the quote includes the modules you actually plan to run. The short version: perpetual pays off only if you will run WhatsUp Gold for five years or more and the maintenance quote comes in low.
WhatsUp Gold add-on pricing
Two add-ons carry published prices on the pricing page.
- Network Detection and Response Lite, from $866 a year, for behavioral threat detection and anomaly monitoring.
- Network Performance Monitoring Sensor, from $520 a year per sensor, a virtual sensor that extends visibility to another location or network segment. That is $43.33 a month for each extra site you want measured.
Progress also sells Network Detection and Response as a separate product, priced per 300 connected devices: $2,990 a year on Business, $3,290 on Enterprise and $3,590 on Enterprise Plus, which is about $10 to $12 per connected device per year. That is a security product rather than a monitoring one, and it is worth keeping out of the monitoring budget line unless you are buying both.
Is WhatsUp Gold free?
Yes, for up to 10 devices. The Free Edition is permanent, includes discovery, topology mapping, alerting, reporting and wireless monitoring, and upgrades in place to a paid edition without a reinstall. There is also a free trial of the paid editions. Ten devices is a lab or a very small office. The step after it is the 50-device Business price, so an 11-device network pays $1,229 a year, the same as a 50-device one.
Three worked WhatsUp Gold bills
A 35-device office with one site. Business at the 50-device starting price, $1,229 a year. Fifteen device licenses sit unused, so the effective rate is $35.11 per device. If you expect to add a second office within a year, that headroom is useful rather than wasted.
A 50-device company that cannot lose monitoring during patching. Business allows a single installation, so the monitor goes dark whenever its Windows server reboots. Enterprise, at $2,049, allows two installations for high availability. The $820 difference is the price of never having a monitoring blackout during your own maintenance window.
A 50-device network buying for the long term. Premium perpetual at $5,089 against five years of Business at $6,145. Perpetual saves $1,056 before maintenance, so it only comes out ahead if the four renewals together cost less than that, $264 a year or less. Ask for the renewal price in writing before you sign. The maintenance invoice arrives every year on a date nobody remembers, and if it lands in a shared inbox, accounts payable automation that captures and routes vendor invoices for approval is what stops a renewal from lapsing unnoticed.
What WhatsUp Gold pricing does not include
The server. WhatsUp Gold runs on Windows Server 2019, 2022 or 2025, and Progress's stated minimum is a quad-core 2.6 GHz processor, 8 GB of memory and 25 GB of disk. SQL Server 2022 Express is bundled by default. The Windows license, the machine, its backups and its patching are all yours, and on Business you need one of each, on Enterprise Plus up to four.
It also does not include a view from outside your network. A WhatsUp Gold server polls your devices from the inside. If your internet uplink fails, customers cannot reach your website and the monitor loses its own route to send the alert. Progress's answer is an Internet Connection Monitoring service listed from the Enterprise edition up.
When you do not need WhatsUp Gold at all
If what you actually need to know is whether your website, customer portal, API or VPN endpoint is reachable, a network monitor is the expensive way to find out. You would be paying $1,229 a year and running a Windows server to watch a handful of public URLs.
AlertPing does that one job from outside your network.
